Graduation & Party Catering in Orange County: Feed Everyone, Stress About Nothing
Graduation party catering in Orange County that actually tastes like real food. Buffet setups, group sizes, dietary flexibility — from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach.
You’re hosting a party. The menu matters more than the decorations.
Graduation parties, retirement bashes, milestone celebrations — they’re all about the people, the stories, and (let’s be real) the food. Deli Nerds has been feeding Orange County gatherings for years, and we’ve learned exactly what makes a catering spread actually work for a room full of folks who actually want to eat.
No rubber-chicken hotel trays. No skewers so small you need a magnifying glass to find them. Just real food that people recognize and actually dig into.
What makes catering work for a party?
It’s not fancy, it’s intentional. Here’s what we’ve figured out:
Variety that works: You don’t need 47 different items. You need 3–4 main lanes — something vegetarian (mezze platter, salads, seasonal sides), something with meat (sliders, kabobs, carved turkey), something with substance (warm pastas, braised lamb). One signature dessert. Done.
Grazing, not serving: Social events are different from office lunches. People want to stand around, eat off plates, refill. Mezze boards, charcuterie, dips, bread. Sliders instead of full sandwiches. Protein platters you can pick off. Kabob skewers (ones big enough to actually find).
Room temp and flavor: The best party food is food you can eat without a hot plate five minutes later. Marinated lamb, herb-dressed salads, house-made hummus, cold pasta sides. Everything tastes better after sitting 20 minutes.
Dietary flexibility built-in: Vegetarian options that aren’t an afterthought. Gluten-free bread. No seed oils (all our proteins are cooked in butter or olive oil — real ingredients). Just tell us who’s coming and what they eat, and we make it work.
Party sizes we actually do
20–40 people: Mezze + slider combo. Budget-friendly, looks full, tastes real. Start with a large mezze platter (hummus, baba, dolmas, olives, pita), two slider varieties (lamb, smash), and a warm side (pasta, roasted vegetables, or our signature potatoes). Add a salad if you want greens.
40–80 people: Dual spread. Two mezze boards, three slider varieties, a carved protein option (herb-marinated lamb or turkey), a cold pasta salad, and a seasonal vegetable plate. Dessert is baklava or brownies — easy to eat standing up.
80+ people: Full buffet with stations. Mezze/dip station, slider & protein station, salads, sides, dessert. We bring it on-site, set it up, and you handle the party.
Where we deliver
Costa Mesa (home base), Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Laguna Beach — Orange County catering from one place. We handle setup, provide serving utensils, and clean up afterwards (or you take the leftovers, your call).
The real question: when do you order?
2–3 weeks out is perfect. Gives us time to dial in quantities, confirm dietary needs, and prep without rushing. Last-minute parties (2–3 days)? We’ll do it, but earlier is always smarter.
The price: Depends on party size and what you choose, but a solid 50-person party with mezze, sliders, sides, and dessert runs $400–600. Less for smaller groups, more if you want carved proteins or extra variety. No surprise invoicing — we quote before we commit.

Fun fact: The “nerds” in Deli Nerds came from a measurement argument about slider ratios. We still measure. Real food, obsessive detail, no corporate shortcuts.
